What is the case that the class needs to solve?

In The Case of the Missing Zoo Animal, the zookeepers have discovered that an animal is missing from its enclosure. The trouble is, they can’t recall which animal lived there! The zookeepers need the class’s help by solving five puzzles to figure out the missing animal.

What is included in this resource?

• A PowerPoint presentation which introduces the problem to the class and asks the students to get into teams of 3-4.
• 5 literacy puzzles for the teams to solve:
  • Puzzle 1: Matching CVC words to pictures
  • Puzzle 2: Spelling CVC words with letters provided
  • Puzzle 3: Matching rhyming pictures
  • Puzzle 4: Read the Room (CVC words)
  • Puzzle 5: Reading decodable sentences and finding the matching pictures
• Each time the teams solve a puzzle, they will be given a letter card. At the end of the five puzzles, students need to use those letter cards to spell a word. That word is the missing animal!
• A certificate is included to give to students after completing the puzzles and solving the mystery.
• Detailed teacher instructions are included.
