Bump it up wall for Prep/Kindergarten

A Bump It Up Wall is a visual display to help your Prep students see what they need to do to improve their writing. Aligned with the Australian Curriculum, it clearly outlines what students need to do to be successful, and what to aim for next! The best part about this Bump It Up Wall is that it uses visuals for each success criteria. This is important because even your non-readers can understand what they need to do to be a successful writer.

 What is included

• Six levels, each with “I can include” statements, visuals for each success criteria, an example of a written text at that level, and a different coloured flower for each level
• The levels in this Bump It Up Wall display are based on the Australian National Literacy Progressions (specifically, the first four levels which is Foundation level)
• A “Look At My Writing Grow!” heading for your display is included. Please note: The words “Bump It Up Wall” are not used in the actual display. This is because “Look At My Writing Grow!” is more child-friendly for your little learners to understand. It also ties in well with the flowers display
• Each level is colour coded, making the distinction between levels clear

 Why you need this resource in your Kindergarten classroom!

Students love having goals and achieving their goals. They just need to know what they have to do to be successful. This is why Bump It Up Walls are so valuable. This display helps students see what they need to do to be a successful writer. Watch your students feel pride as they progress through the levels!

 You’ll note that unlike other Bump It Up Wall displays, this version doesn’t include words like “good, great, excellent” etc. This has been done intentionally. My belief is that beginning writers should have pride in themselves no matter what level they are working at. Students should feel success and pride whether they are working at the “good” level or the “brilliant” level that you see in other displays. Therefore those words are not used in this resource. Instead the levels of growth are shown by the flowers becoming higher.
