Why you need this resource

· Learning how to write can be a huge mental load for your little learners. They need to remember their sounds, their letter formation, their spaces between words, their full stops. The load is huge for a beginning writer. These picture prompts are labelled, meaning your students can use them in their sentences. It’s one less mental burden for them. This allows them to focus on other skills such as composing a sentence, remembering their punctuation and more.

· Being a teacher in a room full of beginning writers can also be overwhelming. There’s only one of you and a sea of them! These labelled pictures help your students build independence. They don’t need to ask for help in spelling out each word because the words are right there in front of them.

· Pair the Picture Writing Prompt with some simple sentence starters (e.g. I can see…) and your students will be able to write sentences with great confidence!
