What’s included in this bundle?

• A PowerPoint presentation that includes 80 of the most frequently used words. Which words are included? A full list in listed below!

 In the PowerPoint, each focus word has seven slides. These slides include:

o Slide 1: The focus word is introduced and shown in a sentence

o Slide 2: Students join in counting the sounds in the word (along with the pre-programmed animations)

o Slide 3: The focus word is broken down into sound boxes (again, all pre-programmed animations!)

o Slide 4: It outlines if there is a tricky part to remember (and if so, what the tricky part is)

o Slide 5: Students decide whether it is a flash word or a heart word

o Slide 6: Students read through a table of words to find the focus word

o Slide 7: Students write the focus word on their mini whiteboard

The bundle also includes 80 printable worksheets

Each worksheet includes:

o The focus word for students to trace

o A sentence which features the focus word. Students can read the sentence and/or underline the focus word

o Students “tap out” the sounds in the word. They colour that many circles to show how many sounds are in the word

o Students “map out” the word into sound boxes

o Students decide if the word is a heart word or a flash word

o Students practise writing the word 2-3 times

o Students find the focus word in a table of words. They colour each time they find the word

 Who is this resource suitable for?

This resource has been designed with Prep/Kindergarten students in mind. The 80 words included are words that I have found to be most commonly used and seen in a Prep classroom. This resource may be beneficial to Year 1 students. Please have a closer look at the preview to decide if it would suit your students

 Is this a scope and sequence?

This resource is NOT a scope and sequence. It is designed to complement your school’s scope and sequence for teaching high-frequency words.

 Why are there editable parts in the PowerPoint?

Many parts of this PowerPoint are editable so you can make any changes to suit the needs of your students. For example, you may wish to change the font (currently Century Gothic) to your own state’s font. Also, you may not think a word is a heart word. Perhaps you have taught your students a particular spelling pattern so they can decode the word fully. In this situation, you can edit the text boxes to have the wording you wish.

 What font is used in the PowerPoint?

It is currently Century Gothic but you can edit the text boxes as necessary

 What font is used in the worksheets?

There are multiple font options in the worksheets. Fonts include: NSW, Tas, Vic, SA, QLD and Century Gothic fonts.

You will need PowerPoint to use the PowerPoint resource. Also, the PowerPoint will need to be in slideshow mode for the animations and hyperlinks to work.

 The worksheets are in PDF format so are not editable. They are in a zipped file.
